Aloha,
I'd like to charter a 40' - 60' Power or Sail Catamaran for a whole day snorkel/sightseeing trip near Kona in February. I've looked, but can't seem to find the type of vessel I'd prefer. There will be a maximum of 8 guests and possibly less. I'm looking for a more luxurious, live aboard type vessel with an enclosed cabin and comfortable cushioned seating inside and out. What I'm finding are vessels designed more for day charters for larger crowds, with hard bench seating; a Bimini top and no cabin. If you could provide any suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated.

Aloha Brian,
It sounds like you’re looking for a more intimate and luxurious catamaran experience in the Kona area, with a focus on comfort and privacy for a small group. While many charters tend to cater to larger groups with open seating and simpler amenities, there are definitely options that will fit your desires for a more upscale, private charter. Below are some recommendations for catamaran charters near Kona that may offer the type of vessel you're looking for:
1. Hawaii Nautical – Kona
Hawaii Nautical offers several luxury catamaran charters in the Kona area. While their main vessels are often used for larger groups, they do have private charter options with more luxurious amenities, including enclosed cabins and comfortable seating. They specialize in both snorkeling and sightseeing tours, and you can inquire about booking a full-day private charter with a smaller, more intimate group. Their vessels often feature cushioned seating both inside and on deck, with more space for relaxation and luxury. It's worth reaching out directly to discuss your specific requirements.
2. Kona Ocean Adventures
Kona Ocean Adventures offers private charters on custom vessels, and they do cater to smaller groups. While they are known for their adventure tours, they can often accommodate special requests for more luxurious settings, including comfortable interior seating and spacious decks. Their charters typically involve snorkeling, sightseeing, and whale watching (depending on the time of year). Given that you're looking for a vessel that offers both enclosed cabins and comfortable seating, they may be able to offer something close to what you're envisioning.
3. Aloha Sunshine – Luxury Private Charters
Aloha Sunshine specializes in private catamaran charters and focuses on a luxurious experience for smaller groups. Their vessels have a more intimate, upscale feel with covered areas, cushioned seating, and enclosed cabins for comfort. You can enjoy a full day of snorkeling, sightseeing, or just relaxing on the water, with the added benefit of a private crew. They can tailor the day to your preferences, and with a maximum of 8 guests, you’ll have a personalized and comfortable experience.
4. Captain Zodiac
While Captain Zodiac is more famous for its adventurous speedboat tours, they also offer private charters, including some on larger catamarans. Depending on the time of year and availability, they may be able to offer something that matches your criteria for a more luxurious, intimate experience. Be sure to inquire about their options for smaller groups and the types of vessels they have for day-long charters.
5. Seabreeze Charters
Seabreeze Charters offers luxury charters with a focus on comfort and personalized service. Their catamarans often have shaded areas, comfortable seating, and some enclosed cabins. They cater to smaller groups, so it’s a good choice for you if you’re looking for an upscale and less-crowded experience. You can arrange for a full-day charter that includes snorkeling and sightseeing around the Kona coast, and they often customize the experience based on guest preferences.
