Waikiki hotel

I'll be staying in Waikiki at the end of the month, and want a hotel that is either on the beach, or just across the street. From some of the reviews, I see that hotels seem to be lacking in beach chairs/umbrellas, and availability at their pools. Is there a hotel the someone could recommend that doesn't have those issues? Close to markets, etc. is a plus. Semi-upscale. Thank you.

Waikiki offers a wide range of hotels that are either beachfront or just steps from the sand. Since you’re looking for a semi-upscale property with reliable beach chairs, umbrellas, and good pool access, here are some of the more highly recommended options that balance comfort, amenities, and location:

  • Halekulani: A luxury hotel right on the beach, Halekulani is known for impeccable service, guaranteed beach chairs and umbrellas, and an elegant pool area. It is also very close to the Royal Hawaiian Center and local markets, making shopping and dining very convenient.
  • Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort: Often called the “First Lady of Waikiki,” this historic property sits directly on Waikiki Beach. Beach amenities are well-managed, and the pool area is well-maintained. Its location provides easy access to markets, restaurants, and shopping along Kalakaua Avenue.
  • Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort: Another beachfront option with dedicated beach chairs and umbrellas. The pool is smaller than some luxury properties but functional, and the hotel offers great access to nearby markets, shops, and restaurants.
  • Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort: Iconic pink palace on the beach with excellent pool and beach services. Beach chairs and umbrellas are included for guests, and the resort is within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

Additional considerations:

  • Most semi-upscale Waikiki hotels manage their beach chairs and umbrellas fairly well, but it’s still best to arrive early if you want prime spots.
  • For pool availability, resorts with multiple pools (like Halekulani or Moana Surfrider) generally avoid crowding issues compared to smaller properties.
  • Being close to markets or shopping, staying along Kalakaua Avenue between Lewers Street and Uluniu Street offers a convenient balance of beach access and amenities.

Overall, if beach access with guaranteed chairs and a luxurious, comfortable experience is your priority, Halekulani and Moana Surfrider are the top recommendations. If you prefer a slightly more casual luxury but still want great location and amenities, the Outrigger or Royal Hawaiian are excellent alternatives.
