Hotel query
Hi all. We have a 2 night stay in Waikiki before heading out to Aulani for 4 nights. Can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel/resort that is beachfront? Have looked at Outrigger Waikiki beach and Hilton Hawaiian princess so far.
Key is great views from the room/ balcony and things for the kids (8 and 12) inc pool/beach access
For a short stay in Waikiki with kids, beachfront hotels with pools and easy access to the beach are ideal. Both the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort and Hilton Hawaiian Village are excellent options, but there are a few more to consider depending on your priorities for views, kid-friendly activities, and amenities.
Recommended Family-Friendly Beachfront Hotels in Waikiki:
- Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort: Classic beachfront property, directly on Waikiki Beach. Offers cultural activities for kids, a pool, and great beach access. Rooms with ocean views provide spectacular scenery, and the location is central for restaurants and shopping.
- Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort: Very family-oriented with multiple pools, including kid-friendly pools with slides. The expansive beachfront is great for kids, and there are daily activities for children. Rooms with lagoon or ocean views offer excellent vistas.
- Sheraton Waikiki: Located at the quieter end of Waikiki, beachfront access is excellent. The resort has a large infinity pool overlooking the ocean, and kids enjoy the pool and beach activities. Rooms with ocean views are stunning.
- Prince Waikiki: A more modern option with spacious rooms and balconies overlooking the water. The pool area is smaller but quieter, and the hotel provides direct beach access via a short walk. Good for families wanting a calm retreat.
- Moana Surfrider: Historic beachfront hotel with beautiful architecture. Offers easy beach access, a pool, and a central location on Waikiki Beach. Family-friendly activities are available, and ocean-view rooms are highly rated.
Tips for Choosing the Best Option:
- Prioritize a room with a direct ocean view or balcony to enjoy the scenery and watch the kids on the beach.
- If your kids love pools and on-site activities, Hilton Hawaiian Village is unmatched for families, with multiple pool options and kid-specific programs.
- For a more central and walkable location with shopping and dining, Outrigger Waikiki Beach and Moana Surfrider are ideal.
- Check if the hotel provides cultural activities or children’s programs, as these can add extra fun for an 8 and 12-year-old.
Overall, both Outrigger and Hilton are solid choices; the Hilton leans more toward a “resort with everything” experience for families, while the Outrigger is more classic Waikiki with excellent location and beach access. Any of these options will give you a memorable stay with great views and kid-friendly amenities.
