I am looking for a condo/resort for a trip in August. I have been looking at several that are within my budget near the east end of PCB. I have found several units that had great reviews in VRBO, AirBNB, etc. -- but when I look at reviews for the complex in Trip Advisor, I'm shocked at how low they are. Most of the reviews I've looked at have a couple comments that are fairly recent -- but the majority are a couple years old, at least. Are all of these properties really that bad? I mostly just care about location, cleanliness & good beds...I don't care if units are a bit dated.
Shores of Panama - 2.6; Summit; Sunbird - 3.2; Majestic Beach Towers - 3.5; Long Beach Resort - 3.6
It’s understandable to feel a bit concerned when you see poor reviews for properties you're considering, especially when they’re from a few years ago. However, when evaluating condo resorts in Panama City Beach (PCB), there are a few factors to keep in mind to help guide your decision:
1. The Importance of Recent Reviews:
Reviews from a few years ago may not reflect the current state of the property, especially if there have been renovations or changes in management. Properties like Shores of Panama, Summit, Sunbird, Majestic Beach Towers, and Long Beach Resort can go through periods of improvement or decline depending on ownership, maintenance, and management. A couple of poor reviews in the recent months could signal current issues, but a consistent pattern of complaints over years is something to consider.
It’s a good idea to focus on reviews that are more recent, and also look for patterns. For instance, if cleanliness and maintenance are mentioned as recurring issues across many reviews, it might be something to take seriously. However, if complaints are more about dated decor or outdated furniture, and you’re okay with that, then it may not be a dealbreaker for you.
2. What to Look for in Reviews:
When reviewing feedback, here are some important aspects to consider:

4. My Recommendations:
If you prioritize location, cleanliness, and good beds, I would suggest considering Majestic Beach Towers or Long Beach Resort. They generally offer a good balance of beach access, decent amenities, and comfortable accommodations. While they may have a few dated elements, they tend to be more reliable in terms of maintenance and cleanliness compared to properties with lower ratings like Shores of Panama.
If you’re more budget-conscious, Sunbird and The Summit are affordable options but come with a trade-off in terms of unit condition and potential crowds. You may get a great deal but should be prepared for more wear and tear in the units.
Ultimately, you should contact the owner or property manager directly to ask about any recent improvements, maintenance schedules, or specific concerns you have based on the reviews. If you're okay with slightly dated decor, but want cleanliness and a good bed, it sounds like Majestic Beach Towers or Long Beach Resort might offer the best combination for your needs. Just make sure to check for any recent reviews or specific issues that might have been addressed.
