Movie Under the Stars

Hi,

My partner and I have seen that you some Disney Resorts showcase a ‘Movie under the Stars’ as a feature onsite. Unfortunately we are staying offsite, is this something that only resort guests benefit from or can offsite tourists pay a fee to join? I will be going to Orlando in September/October and understand this is weather permitting.

If we are allowed to join, any recommendations about which one to go to? Thanks in advance!

Hi! The 'Movie Under the Stars' program at Disney Resorts is generally exclusive to resort guests, but it’s definitely a fun activity to look into if you’re in Orlando. These outdoor movie screenings are typically free for Disney hotel guests and are held in various resorts around Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, offsite guests usually can’t participate in this activity unless they’re staying at the resort or have some other special arrangement, such as dining at the resort or attending another event there. However, there are often exceptions, and it’s worth calling ahead to see if they’re open to allowing non-resort guests to join for a fee.

If you’re looking for similar experiences offsite, there are plenty of outdoor movie screenings that are open to the public in the Orlando area, especially in the fall months when the weather is more favorable for outdoor events. These can be a great alternative and offer a similar vibe to Disney’s movie nights. Below are a few options for movie screenings and outdoor events you can check out:

  • Lake Eola Park Movie Night – Located in downtown Orlando, this event is hosted periodically throughout the year, typically on Friday nights. They show family-friendly movies in the park, and the atmosphere is very relaxed.
  • Leu Gardens Movie Nights – Harry P. Leu Gardens in Orlando also offers occasional movie nights under the stars. It’s a great, more intimate setting for an outdoor movie experience.
  • Winter Park’s Free Movie in the Park – Winter Park, just north of downtown Orlando, offers free outdoor movie nights in Central Park. It’s a fun local experience, often showing classics and family-friendly movies.

It’s worth noting that weather can be unpredictable in Florida, so keep an eye on the event details closer to your trip in September/October. If you can’t attend a Disney resort movie night, these local events will give you a similar experience while exploring the area. Enjoy your trip to Orlando!
