veggie food

Hi

We're staying at the Prince Conti Hotel for 3 nights. We werent planning on big restaurant meals generally in the evening as we thought we would grab something earlier on and then mooch around the bars. Having said that my birthday is during our stay and so would probably plan to have a nice restaurant meal that night. As vegetarians ( NOT vegans!) ,we are fine with pizza ,pasta ,Indian anywhere that has veggie options really so any recommendations for cafes for late lunches and maybe one evening dinner please?

New Orleans has become increasingly vegetarian-friendly, and staying at the Prince Conti Hotel puts you right in the French Quarter, which is convenient for casual eats as well as a special birthday dinner. For late lunches or casual bites while mooching around bars, you have several options that are veggie-friendly, offering pasta, pizza, or other vegetarian dishes.

  • Pizza Domenica: Located near the French Quarter, this spot offers excellent wood-fired pizzas with plenty of vegetarian toppings. Great for a casual, quick lunch.
  • Café Fleur de Lis: A cozy café with vegetarian sandwiches, salads, and quiches, ideal for a light lunch or afternoon snack.
  • Indian restaurants: There are a few Indian places in the French Quarter or nearby, such as Saffron NOLA, offering a wide range of vegetarian curries, naan, and rice dishes.
  • Green Goddess: A little further out but highly recommended for vegetarian-friendly bowls, salads, and healthy options if you want something lighter while exploring.

For a more special birthday dinner, you may want to focus on restaurants that provide a more refined dining experience and have clear vegetarian options:

  • Coquette: Modern Southern cuisine with creative vegetarian options, ideal for a celebratory dinner.
  • Compère Lapin: Caribbean-inspired fine dining with a strong vegetarian menu; the atmosphere is upscale and festive.
  • Bayona: Offers a French-inspired menu with some standout vegetarian dishes; excellent for a memorable birthday evening.

Other tips:

  • Always call ahead or check menus online to confirm vegetarian options, especially for upscale restaurants, as offerings may vary seasonally.
  • For casual bar hopping in the evening, you can combine your meals with nearby cafes or pizzerias that stay open late.
  • Consider making a reservation for the birthday dinner to ensure seating, as popular spots can fill quickly even in the French Quarter.

With these options, you can enjoy relaxed lunches during the day and still have a memorable, celebratory vegetarian dinner in New Orleans.
