Best place to stop for groceries between LIH and Koloa?
I see Koloa has a grocery store but wasn’t sure if there was a better place we should stop en route from the airport. We don’t need a lot of stuff, mostly breakfast items and beer, but I love looking at local foods when I travel, so was hoping for a recommendation with a large selection. Thanks for any guidance!
For your trip from Līhuʻe (LIH) to Koloa, there are a few great options for grocery stops along the way, especially if you're looking to explore local foods and pick up breakfast items and beer.
Here are some suggestions for places with a nice selection of groceries and local products:
- Big Save Market (Koloa) – This is the most convenient grocery store located in Koloa. It’s a smaller, local market but has a solid selection of fresh produce, snacks, and local products. They typically carry Hawaiian staples like taro, poi, and fresh local fruit, along with beer and breakfast items. It's not a huge store, but it should cover most of your needs for a short stay.
- Times Supermarket (Līhuʻe) – This is a larger chain grocery store located in Līhuʻe, just a short drive from the airport. Times has a bigger selection compared to Big Save, and they often carry more local and organic products, including Hawaiian-grown coffee, unique snacks, and local produce. If you're looking for variety and are willing to make a quick detour into Līhuʻe, Times Supermarket is a great choice.
- Safeway (Līhuʻe) – Safeway is a larger national chain with a good selection of standard groceries, along with a few local options. It's located in Līhuʻe as well and would be a good place if you're looking for name-brand items in addition to local goods. You can also find a selection of local beers and breakfast items here, and they often have a deli section with ready-to-go food.
- Living Foods Market & Café (Kapaʻa) – If you don't mind a bit of a detour, Living Foods Market in Kapaʻa is a great spot. It’s a bit further out, but this specialty grocery store offers a curated selection of local, organic, and health-conscious foods. They also have a café that serves delicious food, so you could even grab a bite here while you shop. It’s the perfect place if you want to explore more gourmet, local options.
All of these options will give you a great mix of local and standard groceries, depending on what you're looking for. Big Save is probably the most convenient stop, but if you want to explore more local offerings, Times or Living Foods could be more exciting options!
