New Years Eve activities near Marriott Waiohai, Koloa

Our family will be staying at the Marriott resort over New Year’s Eve and are looking for a family activity. We will have (2) children and (6) adults. Kid friendly would be great but not necessary. Any suggestions?

Spending New Year’s Eve on Kauai near the Marriott Waiohai Resort in Koloa can be fun for families with a mix of adults and kids. While Kauai is more low-key compared to Oahu or Maui for big celebrations, there are still several activities and events suitable for families.

On-Resort Activities:

  • The Marriott Waiohai Resort often hosts its own New Year’s Eve events, which may include live music, kid-friendly entertainment, and special dining options. Check their front desk or concierge for family-oriented programming, such as crafts or games for children leading up to an evening celebration.
  • Evening poolside or beachfront entertainment can be a relaxed way to enjoy the night without needing to travel. Some resorts offer a countdown celebration with mock fireworks or lantern lighting suitable for kids.

Nearby Options:

  • Koloa Town: A short drive from the resort, Koloa has quaint shops and restaurants. Some may host New Year’s Eve dinners or live music events. These are usually early evening and family-friendly.
  • Poipu Beach Park: For families who prefer a simple outdoor experience, Poipu Beach is nearby and can be a great spot to enjoy the sunset and a relaxed picnic. Fireworks are not common, but watching the sky at sunset is still memorable for kids.
  • Local Luau: Some luau venues in the Poipu/Koloa area offer special New Year’s Eve packages. These typically include Hawaiian music, hula shows, and family-friendly meals. The Marriott concierge can provide details and reservations.

Tips:

  • Book any special dinners or luau events in advance, as seating can fill up quickly over the holidays.
  • If traveling off-resort, consider arranging transportation or using taxis/ride services, as parking and traffic may be limited on New Year’s Eve.
  • For younger children, an earlier dinner or event will make it easier to enjoy the celebration without staying up too late.

In summary, the Marriott itself offers the most convenient options for a family-friendly New Year’s Eve, supplemented by a quick visit to Koloa Town or a sunset at Poipu Beach for a quieter, memorable experience.
