Baby Taj – The Delicate Jewel of Agra
Officially known as the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, the Baby Taj is a beautiful Mughal mausoleum located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra. Often considered a draft or inspiration for the Taj Mahal, it was built by Nur Jahan for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal.
Constructed entirely in white marble with fine pietra dura (stone inlay) work and delicate jali (lattice) screens, the tomb is smaller in size but rich in elegance and detail. Its peaceful garden setting and intricate carvings make it a must-visit for history and architecture lovers.
Budget:
Entry fee for foreign tourists: around USD 3–4
Tips:
Visit early in the day for soft lighting and fewer crowds.
Spend time admiring the inlay work—it’s among the finest in Agra.
It’s a quiet spot—perfect for a relaxed walk and photography.
