Wat Mahathat Wachiramongkol is located in Ban Bang Thong, Na Nuea Subdistrict, Ao Luek District, Krabi Province. It was built in 1940 on land donated by Mr. Plao Thongsiri, Mr. Man Pengkit, and Mr. Nuam Damphan. The temple grounds cover over 100 rai (approximately 1,000 acres). The surrounding area is lined with rubber and oil palm plantations, Krabi's key economic crops.
The temple was originally known as "Wat Bang Thong," named after the village where it is located. Wat Bang Thong received the royal charter for the boundary markers on February 13, 1953. The boundary markers measure 30 meters wide and 70 meters long. The consecration ceremony was held on March 14, 1976. Four abbots have served as its principal abbots to this day.
