Izanagi Shrine

#DomesticTrip

During my trip to Awaji Island, I visited Izanagi Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Awaji Province.
It is the oldest shrine in Japan, said to have been built by Izanami-no-Mikoto, the god who created Japan, who appears in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki.
When I heard that it was the oldest shrine in Japan, I definitely wanted to visit it.

There were lanterns standing for kilometers on both sides of the shrine, and I was excited even before I entered.

When I entered the shrine, there was a large 900-year-old tree called the Couple's Great Camphor Tree. It is popular for marital harmony, safe childbirth, and good relationships.
There was also a very beautiful garden, with many carp swimming in it.

I was surprised at how mysterious the diagram showing the relative positions of shrines in Japan, with this shrine at the center, was. Please take a look.
It is a sacred place, and it is not too large, so I was able to look around at my leisure.

The parking lot is free and relatively empty, so I recommend it.
