Jatiluwih is a beautiful village famous for its vast and stunning rice terraces. It’s part of the Tabanan Regency, about 50 km (around 1.5 hours) northwest of Denpasar.
• The rice terraces here are a UNESCO Cultural Landscape heritage site, recognized in 2012 as part of Bali’s ancient and unique Subak irrigation system (a traditional, community-based water management system developed in the 9th century).
• “Jatiluwih” roughly translates to “truly beautiful” in Balinese, and the area lives up to the name with breathtaking landscapes of layered rice paddies, lush tropical forests, and Mount Batukaru in the background.
• The elevation is about 700 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level, so it’s cooler and less humid than coastal areas.
• Visitors often enjoy trekking, cycling, or guided tours through the rice fields. There are also small cafés and traditional warungs where you can relax and take in the views.
• Jatiluwih is less crowded than the more touristy Tegallalang Rice Terraces near Ubud, offering a more peaceful and authentic rural Bali experience.
