Above the Clouds: Hiking Bali’s Mount Batur

Hiking Mount Batur in Bali was an unforgettable adventure that began in the stillness of early morning. We were picked up at 2 AM, bleary-eyed but excited. By 4 AM, guided only by flashlights and the stars, we started the steep ascent. The cool mountain air was refreshing, and though the trail was challenging in parts, the anticipation of sunrise pushed us forward.

As we climbed higher, the sky slowly lightened with shades of purple and orange. Reaching the summit just before dawn, we found the perfect spot to rest. Then, the sun began to rise, casting golden light over the caldera, Lake Batur, and even Mount Agung in the distance. It was breathtaking—pure magic that made every step worthwhile.

Our guide handed us a simple breakfast of boiled eggs cooked in volcanic steam, which we ate while taking in the surreal views. On the way down, we passed cheeky monkeys and took in the lush volcanic landscape in daylight. The whole experience was humbling and energizing—a mix of nature’s raw beauty and personal accomplishment.

Mount Batur didn’t just offer a view; it gave us a moment of peace, wonder, and a memory that will last a lifetime.
