Wat MahathatYuwaratrangsarit is a temple built by Somdej Phra Bowonratchao Maha Sura Singhana. He built a pavilion as the main building of the temple in 1783 to enshrine the Buddha's relics, which is the origin of the temple's name.

This pavilion originally had a castle-like roof, but a fire broke out in 1801, so it was rebuilt in the current Roman style and a pavilion was built to enshrine a golden pagoda instead.

The temple is near the Grand Palace and many other tourist attractions.
