The Smile Amidst the Ruins – Ayutthaya | Wat Mahathat's "Buddha Head in Tree Roots"

Strolling through the ancient city of Ayutthaya,
Wat Mahathat stands silently amidst the crumbling walls,
witnessing the glory and fall of a bygone dynasty.

This ancient temple, built during the Khmer period,
was once the political and religious center.
Now, only headless Buddha statues and weathered red bricks remain,
quietly narrating the vicissitudes of history.

The most awe-inspiring sight
is undoubtedly the "Buddha Head in Tree Roots."
Legend has it that when the Burmese army captured Ayutthaya,
the Buddha statues were decapitated, and over time,
a fig tree grew amidst the ruins.
Its roots gently embraced the Buddha's head,
creating this extraordinary fusion of nature and faith.

The red-brick towers, broken Buddha statues, and sprawling greenery
compose the most captivating "ruins aesthetic" scenery.

When taking photos here, remember to observe proper etiquette—lower your body
so that your head is not higher than the Buddha's head, as a sign of respect. 🙏
