Wat Nang Nong Worawihan is a serene and charming ancient temple located on the Thonburi side of Bangkok. Not only does it offer a tranquil atmosphere, but it is also filled with fascinating details worth exploring.
The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall is a gilded Buddha statue adorned in royal attire, showcasing intricate designs that reflect the early Rattanakosin art style. Interestingly, unlike most Thai temples where the principal Buddha faces east, this one faces south.
It is believed that this unique orientation was designed to align with the Bangkok Yai Canal, allowing travelers from the past to immediately behold the majestic Buddha image upon entering the temple.
Another remarkable story associated with this temple is the "Red Bag of Money." King Rama III (King Nangklao) bestowed this fund to the temple to ensure its future maintenance and the preservation of Buddhism.
