🍜 "Cantonese Noodles (Old Betong)" Charoen Nakhon 78 — The Charm of Betong Noodles in the Thonburi Area

If you love noodles, roast pork, fried chicken, and dumplings, all at great prices, this restaurant's name says it all: "Old Betong" — authentic Betong recipes in the city! The restaurant is located in Soi Charoen Nakhon 78, Dao Khanong side, Thonburi District (opposite Big C Dao Khanong). Access it from the main road through a small alley. But once you get there, it's worth it. It has a homey feel, but the food is truly packed.

• Open daily from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, or some sources say 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, depending on whether or not it's sold out.
• Location: Soi Charoen Nakhon 78, Dao Khanong Subdistrict, Thon Buri District, Bangkok 10600
• Price per person: Under 100 baht. For dishes that include fried chicken, barbecued pork, dumplings, etc., it's usually around ฿60-฿110.
• Parking: There's no parking available (park on the street or across the street, or some reviews say you can find parking nearby).

🍽 Must-try dishes

Sis, if you come here, this is a must-try. If you don't order this, you haven't really arrived:
1. Noodles, Wontons, Fried Chicken, and Char Siu (Dry) — This restaurant's flagship dish. The noodles are homemade and chewy, tossed with the restaurant's special sauce (soy sauce, sesame oil, and fried oil). The fried chicken is crispy and fragrant, and the char siu is tender and perfectly sweet. The wontons have thin dough, and the pork filling is excellent.
2. Wonton Noodles and Char Siu (Soup) — If you're craving a hot soup in the morning, this is a great choice. Although the noodles aren't the best for soup, it's still okay.
3. Fried Wontons — A great appetizer/side dish. Crispy with soft pork filling and incredibly delicious.
4. Char Siu Rice / Char Siu + Fried Chicken — If you're not into noodles or want to order a single dish, this restaurant also offers a good choice. The Char Siu Rice is good, with the char siu soft and perfectly sweet and sour.
5. Sunday Specials — Some reviews mention Betong-style sticky rice with chicken and braised pork ribs. If you're looking for something unique/not everyday, try this dish. You need to make a reservation or contact the restaurant in advance.

🗣 Girlfriend-like chatting

Oh, listen, sis! Whenever I feel like eating good noodles, I'm ready. I wake up early, drive to Charoen Nakhon 78, a small alleyway off Dao Khanong Road. I walk into the 7-Eleven and stand around the alley for a bit until I find the restaurant. It's a cute little shophouse with only a few tables, but it's always packed from early morning.

I ordered the "Noodles, Dumplings, Fried Chicken, and Roast Pork (Dry)." Oh, and the first bite was of soft noodles tossed in a sauce that wasn't too strong. The sesame oil was lightly fragrant. The roast pork was perfectly sweet, not dry. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The dumplings were homemade with thin dough. The pork filling was medium-flavored. Eat it with the warm soup and pickled vegetables (if available)—the overall flavors were well-balanced, not overly spicy/salty/sweet.

The sun was getting a bit stronger. The restaurant didn't have air conditioning (or if it did, it wasn't very strong). Sitting there felt very "homely" and gave me a full street food feel. The sounds of people chatting and the clinking of plates and spoons. + The smell of fried chicken made me sneak a peek at the table next to me and say, "I'd love to try one of their other Sunday specials." (Just in case you go on Sunday to check out their special menu.)

If you're looking for delivery, LINE MAN is available. Some locals say delivery and takeout are available, but eating in the restaurant is a more enjoyable experience.

⚠️ Pros + Cons / Things to Beware of

Pros:
• The noodles are very tasty, authentic Betong style, with a distinct chewy texture.
• The fried chicken is crispy and the barbecued pork is slightly sweet, not tough. The variety of toppings is a great value if you go early.
• They open early (6:00 AM), perfect for those craving noodles. + Great prices.
• They also have a special Sunday menu if you want something different from the weekdays. But you must call to make a reservation.

Caution:
• The shop closes relatively early (2:30 PM) because they're sold out / during lunchtime — if you go around noon, you might find many dishes already sold out.
• Parking is available at https://maps.app.goo.gl/DffJ45U9YcGVSR9N7?g_st=ipc (paid).
• If you're visiting on Sunday and want a special menu, you should call or make a reservation in advance, as it sells out quickly.
• If you're craving noodle soup, this might not be the best option, as the noodles, sauce, and recipe are primarily designed for dry wontons / dry noodles. — If you order soup, understand that the noodles may not be as perfect as you might think.

✅ Conclusion: Should you go?

Go! If you're in the Thonburi / Dao Khanong area or don't want to drive far, "The Original Betong Cantonese Noodles" is a must-have for your list. If you're craving dry noodles / roast pork / crispy fried chicken / homemade wontons at affordable prices and want to start your morning with a delicious meal, this shop is the answer.

If you're free on Sunday, you might want to try a special menu item. You'll get to try something new if you're not in a rush/go a little early.
