This popular Khao Man Gai restaurant is a favorite among tourists visiting Bangkok.
As its nickname, Pink Khao Man Gai, everything from the restaurant logo to the menu and staff uniforms is pink.
This time, I ordered Khao Man Gai, bitter melon and pork rib soup, and Thai tea.
The service was fast, and everything was ready in no time.
The Khao Man Gai's rice, cooked in chicken broth, was just the right firmness. The rice had absorbed the full chicken flavor, and the tender chicken was placed on top. It was a simple yet deeply delicious dish.
The accompanying sauce (nam chim) was also mildly spicy, creating a perfect blend when poured over the chicken and rice. I finished it in no time.
Another specialty is the bitter melon and pork rib soup. I wondered why they ordered a separate soup when the Khao Man Gai comes with soup, but one sip revealed that it's a completely different dish.
The broth that comes with the Khao Man Gai is a mild chicken broth, but the bitter melon broth packs a punch with a strong peppery kick. The bitterness of the bitter melon blends with the fatty pork, making for a flavor that's easy to understand why it's so popular.
It's no wonder it's been awarded Bib Gourmand multiple times, and it's a famous restaurant worth waiting in line for when you visit Bangkok.
