Batu Caves – Iconic and Free to Visit

If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, a visit to Batu Caves is a must — and the best part? It’s completely free to enter! Easily reachable by KTM Komuter train from KL Sentral, this iconic site is home to the towering golden statue of Lord Murugan and the famous 272 rainbow-colored steps leading to the Temple Cave.

But be warned: the afternoon sun can be intense, especially between May and August, so I recommend going early in the morning. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and pace yourself for the climb.

Here’s a tip: Don’t rush off after visiting the main cave! If you explore a bit further behind the complex, you’ll come across a massive green statue of Hanuman, the monkey god known for strength and devotion. This statue marks the entrance to the Ramayana Cave, which features colorful dioramas depicting scenes from the Hindu epic. There’s a small entrance fee for this part, but it’s a quiet, interesting contrast to the main temple and worth the detour.

Batu Caves isn’t just about the climb — it’s a spiritual, cultural, and visual experience that gives you so much more if you take your time to explore.
