Forbidden City 🇨🇳

The Forbidden City is one of the most famous building in Beijing. It is an imperial palace complex that was commissioned in 1406 by the Yongle emperor of the Ming dynasty.

The complex was named like that because access to the area was barred to most of people of the realm. Government functionaries and even the imperial family were permitted only limited access. Only the emperor alone could enter any section.

The site is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage from 1987.

You can visit the Forbidden City but you need a ticket. You have to go if you are visiting Beijing!
