"If you haven't been to the Great Wall, you are not a true man" - Mutianyu

#JanuaryGoodPlaces2025

As the old saying goes, "He who has not been to the Great Wall is not a true man." Since it is a rare opportunity to come to Beijing, there is no way that you would not visit the Great Wall. At first I had to choose between Badaling and Mutianyu. Zhongran Badaling is more convenient than Mutianyu in terms of geographical location, but after seeing the photos of Badaling being crowded, overcrowded and difficult to move, I decisively chose Mutianyu.

Chatting with the locals, I learned that the scenery between Badaling and Mutianyu is not that different. The slope of Mutianyu is relatively flat, which is more suitable for the elderly and children. Badaling has more tourists because there are other scenic spots nearby, which makes it convenient for tour guides to lead groups at one time, so they are more inclined to promote Badaling. However, there is still a part of Mutianyu that has not been developed and is not open to tourists yet.

I recommend taking the cable car up the mountain and the slide down the mountain ⛰️ It is close to the Great Wall. The people taking the cable car will take pictures for you. You can buy the photos if you are interested. Whether you can ride the slide depends entirely on luck. It started to rain when I was about to go down the mountain that day. For safety reasons, the slide had to be suspended. I hope I will have a chance to try it next time~

PS: If you take the bus, be careful of the black taxis, they will solicit tourists at the bus transfer station! I suggest going in the morning, as there are more buses, which can reduce the chance of encountering black taxis.
