I was looking for availability to make a reservation in the morning on May 26 to the Palace Museum.
I found a possibility on May 29. It seems the waiting time is approximately 3 days.
The site is large so it's better to get in as soon as possible.
I reserved a general admission and for two exhibitions, Treasure Gallery and Gallery of Timepieces (Clocks).
The ticket is connected to the passport or ID.
But you should go through the Tiananmen square security and they asked me to show the reservation letter.
Fortunately I had a screenshot. I didn't have internet so I couldn't have shown them the letter.
The date wasn't visible on the screenshot but finally the guards let me in.
I made the reservation with on site payment.
Unfortunately after the security the ticket check came immediately and my ticket was invalid because I haven't paid for it yet.
So they showed me the ticket office. I paid the entrance fee. Then I could get in at 9 am.
I bought the other part of the ticket inside.
First I walked from the South Entrance to the North Entrance then I started with the halls on the East Wing where the Treasure Gallery and the Clock Gallery are.
Then I continued with the halls on the West Wing.
There are several other exhibitions, ceramics, statues, furnitures etc. Personally I liked the Clock Gallery the most.
I finished the visit at 15.30 pm. I was in the museums most of the time but I still walked about 15 km there too.
You can get in the Calligraphy Gallery by QR code reading only. It wasn't ticket office there.
