Discover Huairou: Relaxing Homestay and Free Creek Trekking

No wonder Huairou is such a gem! Relax at a cozy homestay, enjoy family time, and even go creek trekking for free.

After returning to Beijing from a trip to Chongli, I was immediately greeted by a heatwave. A friend recommended taking the kids to Shentangyu in Huairou for some free creek trekking and water play. To my surprise, I discovered an amazing homestay in the area.

Stay 🏨: The homestay is a three-story minimalist-style building. We booked a sunlit twin room with large floor-to-ceiling windows and a small balcony—definitely a bonus! The view of the lush green mountains and trees outside is incredibly refreshing 🍃. The bathroom is well-designed with separate wet and dry areas, and the large bathtub was a hit with the kids. They even provide disposable bathtub covers for cleanliness.

Dine 🍽️: The food was truly impressive! Breakfast is included with the room booking, and having breakfast by the pool was simply delightful 🥳. For dinner the night before, we ordered a few homestyle dishes, and the braised pork with chestnuts was absolutely amazing 👍. The kids devoured it and kept asking when we could come back 😂.

Play 🎠: As soon as we arrived, the kids were captivated by the children's area in the lobby, which features a reading nook, a mini kitchen, a big slide, and various toy cars. The courtyard also has a pool, swings, and slides. Just a 5-minute walk away is Yanqi River, where you can go creek trekking, play in the water, and catch small fish. The Shentangyu trail and caves are also free to explore.

TIPS 💡:
1️⃣ There are plenty of mosquitoes in the mountains, so be sure to take precautions.
2️⃣ Bring water-resistant pants and tools for water play—you can enjoy free water activities all day.
3️⃣ The homestay has a few cats, but remember to admire them from a distance and avoid feeding them.
