Knez Mihailova Street is the main pedestrian and shopping zone in Belgrade, Serbia. The vibrant, 800-meter-long thoroughfare is one of the oldest and most valuable landmarks in the city, lined with beautiful 19th-century buildings and filled with shops, cafes, and restaurants.
Turkish rule: During the Ottoman period, the area was filled with gardens, fountains, and mosques.
19th century development: Knez Mihailova was formally established and regulated in 1867 by Serbian urban planner Emilijan Josimović.
