After checking out at noon, return to the comprehensive tourist information center in Beppu Station to purchase a one-day ticket for the Beppu Kamenoi Bus. Take Kamenoi Bus No. 5 or 7 and get off at Umijigoku-mae Station, where there are five hot springs. Go to the Kannawa Bus Terminal and take Bus No. 16 to Kechikijigoku-mae Station. Visit the last two hot springs. The single ticket for each hot spring is 400 yen/adult, and the combined ticket is 2,200 yen/adult.
Umijigoku: After entering, you will see a shopping street selling souvenirs. I bought bath additives here, and then you will see the hot spring. It is a very beautiful blue. The cobalt blue color is because there is a lot of iron sulfate in the water.
Onishi Bouzu Hell: It looks like a mud hell, with bubbling gray mud
Stove Hell: There is also a small souvenir shop inside. The hot spring pool is a light blue, a little different from the blue of Sea Hell. The most special thing about Stove Hell is that it uses hot spring steam to provide different experiences. One of the most special things for me is the hot spring water tasting, which can be purchased in a small cup for 10 yen. I think it's very salty.
Ghost Mountain Hell: Also known as the "Crocodile Hell", it uses geothermal energy to raise a large number of crocodiles, including a 73-year-old specimen that is over 4 meters long.
White Pond Hell: It is very different from other hell hot springs. It looks like a residential area and has a Japanese garden style. It was listed as a "Designated Scenic Spot of Japan" in 2011. It also has a tropical fish museum that uses geothermal hot springs for breeding.
Blood Pond Hell: It is a red hell hot spring, just as the name suggests, there is a souvenir shop inside. The most special thing is the "Blood Pond Ointment", which is said to be very effective for eczema, mosquito bites, itching, etc., but I didn't buy it. There is also a foot bath here. I soaked in it for a while and felt very comfortable. The weather happened to be cool, and my feet dried up immediately after the bath.
Tornado Hell: This is the last hot spring of the day. It is an intermittent hot spring. Due to the pressure of the underground space, the spring water erupts every 30-40 minutes and lasts for 6-10 minutes each time. After getting off at the Blood Pond Hell Station, you can come and see when the next eruption will be, and then decide which one to go to first.
