The stunning green water of Lago di Braies is a result of glacial flour combined with the reflection of light. The lake itself is fed by melting glacial runoff from the surrounding Dolomites, which creates its unique and vibrant color. The water in Lago di Braies comes from the surrounding mountains, primarily via the Grünwaldtal valley. As the glaciers and snow melt, they grind the rock beneath them into a fine powder known as glacial flour. This silt is suspended in the water and remains in the lake.
