🏰 Brașov: The Heart of Transylvania

I can confidently say: this is the Romanian gem you can’t miss. Set in the Carpathian Mountains, Brașov is the kind of place where medieval charm meets Dracula legends, with cobbled streets, pastel buildings, and forested hills all around.
Here’s the full story — and everything I wish I knew before I went.
🚌 Getting There from Bucharest:
I booked a spot on a guided tourist bus tour — great for convenience, but heads up:
The ride takes 3–4 hours (depending on traffic).
📅 Best Time to Visit:
Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) are perfect — warm days, fewer crowds, and golden mountain light.
Winter is magical too, especially with snow on the rooftops and ski trips to nearby Poiana Brașov.
🏰 Why Brașov is Worth It:
The Black Church – a Gothic wonder with an incredible organ and mysterious history.
Rope Street (Strada Sforii) – one of the narrowest streets in Europe!
Tampa Mountain – hike up or take the cable car for panoramic views over the city.
The Council Square is postcard-perfect, with cafes, gelato, and street music.
⚠️ Challenges + Tips:
It gets cold fast in the evening, even in summer. Pack a jacket!
Most places take card, but carry a bit of cash (especially for local snacks or souvenirs).
If you have time, try a local food tour — Romanian cuisine is super underrated.
Beware of tight return schedules with group tours — I wished I had an extra hour just to chill at a café.
❤️ Most Unforgettable Moment:
Watching the sunset from Tampa Mountain, with the whole city glowing below and the giant “BRAȘOV” sign lit up behind me. It honestly felt like a mix of Salzburg and Dracula’s hometown — in the best way possible.
