A Visit to Dong-A University's Seokdang Museum, a Space Where History and Culture Come to Life

Located in Bumin-dong, Dong-A University, the Seokdang Museum is a university museum within the Bumin Campus. Its significant location, the former Provisional Capital Government Building during the Korean War, holds significant significance. Opened in 1959, the museum relocated to Bumin Campus in 2009 after remodeling the former government building. The building itself, a stately Western-style red brick structure built during the Japanese colonial period, boasts exceptional historical value. The museum boasts a collection of approximately 23,400 artifacts, including two National Treasures and 18 Treasures, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive university museums in Korea. Particularly valuable artifacts on display include the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the Donggwoldo painting. A tour is also offered in conjunction with the Provisional Capital Memorial Hall. Due to its historical significance as the Provisional Capital Government Building, the museum is recognized as a significant part of Busan's modern cultural heritage.
