Changsha JW Marriott Hotel Review (9/10)
1. Location & Transportation (8.5/10)
The hotel is located on Furong Middle Road in Yuhua District, Changsha, adjacent to Tujiachong Station on Metro Line 1, about a 5-minute walk away, making transportation convenient. It's approximately a 20-minute drive to core attractions like Wuyi Square and Orange Island, and about 25 minutes to Changsha South Railway Station, suitable for both business and leisure travelers. Compared to the W and St. Regis in Changsha, the JW Marriott is slightly closer to the city center, but still in a predominantly business district location (good for room hopping with the Four Points by Sheraton Tianxin).
2. Room Experience (9/10)
- Pros: Stayed in an open-concept corner room on the 45th floor (62m²) with excellent views, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides, abundant natural light, smart toilet, JBL speakers, wireless charging, and other comprehensive amenities. The comfortable bedding and room decor combines light wood with marble, creating an elegant business atmosphere.
- Cons: Only 14 suites available, often occupied by celebrities, making upgrades extremely difficult. (Corner rooms are also limited)
Important note: The basic room and corner suite offer completely different experiences - without an upgrade, the standard room at 1000 yuan cash rate doesn't offer much value.
3. Dining (9/10)
- Breakfast: The Chuan Yun Tai restaurant offers rich selections including Hunan rice noodles, fresh juices, eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, etc. Quality exceeds other hotels of the same level in Changsha, showing the hotel's depth.
- Executive Lounge: Solid Happy Hour (HH) food offerings including noodle station and homemade mango pomelo sago. Beverages include TWG tea bags and Perrier water.
- Welcome fruit deserves special mention - as a JW property, the simple "traffic light" fruit arrangement could be improved, but they thoughtfully provided a birthday cake (which was extremely delicious, better than Holiland and similar bakeries).
4. Facilities & Service (9.5/10)
- Fitness Center & Pool: The 33rd floor heated pool offers panoramic views and includes a sauna; the gym features advanced equipment with floor-to-ceiling windows enhancing the experience.
- Service details: Concierge proactively assists with luggage, front desk staff are efficient and professional, pillows come in 9 different types (including buckwheat and lavender), and Do Not Disturb training is thorough.
- Shortcomings: None to speak of - service is exemplary, setting a benchmark for JW properties.
5. Value for Money (8.5/10)
Regular room rates are slightly high, but better value when booking with points or during flash promotions. Compared to the St. Regis Changsha, JW Marriott offers better executive lounge and breakfast, making it ideal for high-tier Marriott members.
