Hebei Province・Chengde Two-Day Trip Plan

This is the itinerary I followed!
Departure: Tianjin (by car)｜Destination: Qingdong Tombs, Mountain Resort, Paper Cutting Experience, Xifengkou Underwater Great Wall

🗓 Day 1｜Tianjin → Qingdong Tombs → Chengde City (Mountain Resort, Paper Cutting Experience)

08:00｜Depart from Tianjin
• Travel to Qingdong Tombs via expressway (approx. 3 hours)
• Take a 15-minute break at a service area along the way

11:00｜Arrive at Qingdong Tombs (World Heritage Site) and tour (approx. 2 hours)
• Mausoleum complex of Qing Dynasty emperors, including the tombs of Emperor Xianfeng and Empress Dowager Cixi.
• Main attractions: Xiaoling, Yuling, Cixi Mausoleum, Sacred Way
• Recommended to use electric carts for efficient touring.

13:00｜Lunch (at a farmhouse restaurant near Qingdong Tombs)
• Local cuisine (dumplings, farmhouse stir-fry, corn dishes, etc.)

14:00｜Depart Qingdong Tombs → Head to Chengde City (approx. 2.5 hours / approx. 170km)

16:30–17:00｜Arrive in Chengde → Hotel check-in

17:30–19:00｜Mountain Resort (evening tour)
• World Heritage Site. Summer retreat of Qing Dynasty emperors.
• Among the lake area, grassland area, and mountain area, focus on the lake area if time is limited.

19:15｜Dinner (in Chengde City)
• Manchu cuisine and local dishes (venison, tofu dishes, Chengde cold noodles, etc.)

20:30–21:30｜Paper Cutting (Jianzhi) Experience
• Experience at a workshop in the city or within the hotel (approx. 1 hour)
• Take home your handmade paper cutting as a souvenir.

21:45｜Stay overnight at the hotel

🗓 Day 2｜Chengde → Xifengkou Underwater Great Wall → Tianjin

08:30｜Depart from the hotel (after breakfast)

10:30｜Arrive at Xifengkou Underwater Great Wall (tour approx. 1.5–2 hours)
• A unique "underwater Great Wall" extending over a lake.
• Capture photos of the Great Wall reflected on the lake.
• View up close from small boats or walkways.

12:30｜Lunch (at a local restaurant near Xifengkou)

13:30｜Depart for Tianjin (approx. 4–4.5 hours)

18:00｜Arrive in Tianjin (end of trip)

💡 Tips
• Allow extra time for the Qingdong Tombs → Chengde route as it includes mountain roads.
• Be mindful of the season as Chengde can be chilly in the mornings and evenings.
• The return route from Xifengkou to Tianjin tends to have traffic near Tangshan, so departing at 13:30 is ideal.
