Iron Xiang Temple Water Street Lantern Festival is not worth a special trip

🏮Lunar New Year is not complete without a lantern festival, especially in Chengdu, where the festive atmosphere is strong. After reading many recommendations online, I found that the Wuhou Temple Grand Temple Fair is too crowded, the Panda Lantern Festival at Jiangtan Park is fully booked, the Jinsha Site Museum Lantern Festival is too expensive, and the Wenjiang Grand Temple Fair is too far away. The Iron Xiang Temple Water Street Lantern Festival seems to be less popular, and it has only been held in recent years, so I decided to go.

🙋First impression:
1️⃣The name Water Street comes from the Iron Xiang Temple in its core area, and the Xiaoji River, which flows north-south through it, is called Iron Xiang Temple Water Street. It is a park-style commercial street that integrates traditional Tianfu cultural landscape elements such as courtyards, ancient pagodas, ancient bridges, archways, and pavilions.

2️⃣The buildings here are not high, and the elements of blue bricks, white walls, and wooden grilles are combined with sloping roofs and eaves, and the exterior design shows the beauty of Chinese architecture.

🎠Lantern Festival review:
3️⃣It is more like a night view than a lantern festival. According to the introduction, five themed lantern viewing areas have been created at the Qiu Xian Archway, Central Axis/Tongjin Bridge, Longdi Pond, Fountain Square, and Qianqiu Pond, but it feels like a single lantern group on the central axis, and the whole journey is only 300 meters, which is very thin and lacks momentum.

4️⃣The only thing worth seeing is the fish-shaped lanterns on the central axis, which flicker with warm light under the night and form a flowing river of light.

5️⃣The goods sold in the temporary shops under the lanterns are even more boring, more like supporting the lantern festival.

6️⃣If there is one advantage, it is that there are few people, the experience is good, and it is suitable for taking photos.

🕰️Event time: January 11, 2025 - February 14, 2025.
📍Location: Iron Xiang Temple Water Street, Chengdu High-tech Zone. It is a 10-minute walk from Exit C of Jincheng Lake Station on Metro Line 5, and it is very convenient to park by car, as there are few tourists.
🎫Tickets: Free admission, no reservation required, just go directly, it is really not worth a special trip.
