This German-style hotel in Chengdu makes you never want to leave...

I stayed at the Kempinski this weekend. I thought this old five-star brand would feel a bit stuffy, but I was completely proven wrong.

The lobby's crystal chandeliers are blingbling like a European palace, while the rooms take a minimalist high-end approach. The natural wood furniture paired with floor-to-ceiling windows creates amazing lighting, and all the toiletries are from luxury brands.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, gym, spa, and executive lounge - clearly catering to health-conscious business travelers with refined tastes.

The breakfast is intimidatingly abundant, a perfect fusion of Chinese and Western cuisines with both Sichuan flavors and German specialties. If you don't feel like going out in the evening, there's a craft beer and wine bar on the first floor where you can enjoy some barbecue and drinks - it's absolutely delightful.

Overall, this hotel feels like an understated aristocrat - great location without being flashy. You'll definitely want to stay forever once you check in.
