Taikoo Li Chengdu, located near Chunxi Road Metro Station, is an open, low-density block-style shopping center developed by Swire Properties. Adjacent to the thousand-year-old Daci Temple, it boasts a unique historical and cultural ambiance, housing a collection of international brands and renowned restaurants. The upcoming Xi'an Taikoo Li near the Small Wild Goose Pagoda follows the same successful formula and is highly anticipated.
Chunxi Road gathers flagship stores of numerous brands, large shopping malls, hotels, and time-honored Chengdu snacks like Zhong Dumplings, Lai Tangyuan, Long Chaoshou, and Fuqi Feipian. Known as the top commercial street in central and western China, second only to Hong Kong's Causeway Bay and Shanghai's Nanjing Road, its highlights include the IFS climbing panda sculpture.
During my month-and-a-half Southwest China trip, the first half took me from Xi'an to Chongqing, Kunming, and Tengchong, while the second half was a self-drive journey through Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-La, returning via the Jingkun Expressway at a leisurely pace of 200-300 km daily. Though I've visited Chengdu many times before, it still feels familiar. Last time, I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria with great experiences; this time, I chose Niccolo Hotel.
The hotel enjoys an excellent location in the IFC (International Finance Centre) at the heart of Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road business district. The spacious room offers panoramic views of Taikoo Li and Daci Temple, with stunning daytime and nighttime scenery, plus sunrise views in the morning. Stepping downstairs grants instant access to shopping and strolling in Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road, along with dining at a Michelin-starred Sichuan restaurant—their Fuqi Feipian was particularly memorable, a perfect blend of color, aroma, and taste.
Transport is convenient with Chunxi Road Metro Station right below, and ample underground parking (though downtown traffic can be congested). The breakfast buffet was delightful, and despite the bustling location, the room remained quiet and comfortable for restful sleep.
Farewell, Chengdu—what a wonderful time!
