Chengdu, Sichuan | Daci Temple Commemorates Xuanzang, the Master's Original Aspiration in the Western Journey to Seek the Dharma

Chengdu's Daci Temple is renowned not only for its millennia-old temple, but also for a great monk: Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty.

Xuanzang became a Buddhist monk here as a young boy. The temple's halls and bells bear witness to his earliest years of practice. Years later, he embarked on a perilous journey westward, enduring 81 trials and tribulations, ultimately bringing Buddhist scriptures back to China, achieving a pinnacle in the history of Chinese Buddhism.
