Bailuzhou Park is located in the Ganjiang River east of Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province. It is 1.5 kilometers long and 0.5 kilometers wide. It is a spindle-shaped oasis formed by the sediment carried by the river water. It looks like a egret. The island is covered with lush forests and bamboos, making it a habitat for hundreds of birds.
In the first year of the Song Dynasty's Chunhu reign (1241), Jiang Wanli, the prefect of Jizhou, founded Bailuzhou Academy here. He gathered talented scholars from the eight counties of Jizhou to study there. In the fourth year of the Baoyou reign (1256), 39 academy members were recognized as Jinshi (imperial scholar) by the Jinshi examination, with Wen Tianxiang taking first place. This achievement shocked the court and the nation, and Song Lizong personally bestowed upon the academy a plaque inscribed with the words "Bailuzhou Academy" to be hung on its gate. From then on, the academy's reputation soared that it became one of the four major academies in Jiangxi, along with Bailudong, Yuzhang, and Ehu.
The existing Yunzhang Pavilion on the island was rebuilt in 1592, the 20th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. Fengyue Tower, a three-story brick-and-wood pavilion with a rich Chinese architectural style, was rebuilt in 1868, the 7th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. Other academy sites include Panyue Pond, Zhuangyuan Bridge, and Guji Terrace. Since 1241, Bailu Island has been the site of academy, and for over 700 years, the island has been filled with the sound of reading.
The island boasts a subtropical humid monsoon climate, lush bamboo and trees, lush green grass, a tranquil environment, and beautiful scenery. It's suitable for travel in all seasons.
The main attractions of Bailuzhou Park include Bailuzhou, Bailuzhou Academy, Yunzhang Pavilion, Fengyue Tower, Panyue Pond, Zhuangyuan Bridge and Gujitai.
It is recommended to play for about 2 hours.
