The temple, built in 1296 by King Meng Rai, is located in a serene forest setting on Suthep Road. It was renovated during the reign of King Keu Na, adding to its rich history. This ancient temple, known for its peaceful atmosphere and minimalist structures, has become a renowned meditation center attracting devout Buddhists from around the world. The surrounding area is also home to several historical artifacts and architectural wonders, such as the Asok Pillar, dedicated to the Indian King Asok Maharaja, a devout Buddhist, and U-Mong, an ancient tunnel-like structure designed to create a near-silent environment conducive to meditation.
