Wat Chedi Luang

Wat Chedi Luang is considered the largest temple within the old city area or the moat of Chiang Mai province. This temple was once the home of the Emerald Buddha before it was moved to Bangkok.

The large Naga statues at the base of the stairs leading to the Chedi are ancient Lanna-style Nagas. If you observe the design or the headpiece of the Nagas, you will find them exceptionally beautiful, considered the most exquisite and well-preserved Nagas in their original form.

Additionally, this temple is surrounded by many fascinating stories. For instance, on the right side of the Naga stairs, there is a tunnel-like opening. It was once believed that this tunnel could lead all the way to Chiang Dao district in Chiang Mai province.

With all these intriguing features, this temple is definitely worth a visit.
