The first royal monastery in Chiang Mai

🏘Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in Chiang Mai city. According to the stone inscription of Wat Chiang Man in 1839, it is stated that King Mangrai built the temple as a temporary residence during the period he controlled the construction of the city. When it was completed, he went to reside in the newly built palace and ordered the construction of a pagoda at the Chiang Man dormitory and named it Wat Chiang Man. It is considered the first royal temple in Chiang Mai.
🧱 In 2014, Phraya Lokarat ordered the construction of a laterite pagoda. When the Burmese occupied Chiang Mai, Prince Mantra ordered the construction of a pagoda, a viharn, an ordination hall, a thammasana hall, a wall, and a gate.
🏡During the reign of King Kawila (1782-1824), it was renovated again.
Important and interesting things in the temple include:
🛕 The pagoda is located on a square base. Stacked in 2 layers, on the base decorated with 15 stucco half-elephants around and decorated with 1 elephant at each corner.
🏠Luang Wihan, Lanna style, inside there are murals, gold paintings on red walls telling the story of the creation of cities and temples, both in Wiang Kum Kam and Chiang Mai by King Mangrai. There is a large pavilion for worship, surrounded by Buddha images. One standing Buddha image has the year 2008 carved on the base, making it the oldest Buddha image in the Lanna Kingdom and Thailand.
⛺Small Wihan enshrines two important Buddha images, considered the Buddha images of Chiang Mai, namely Phra Setangkamani or Phra Kaew Khao and Phra Sila.
🏡Ubosot, in front there is a stone inscription that clearly states the date of founding of Chiang Mai, which is April 12, 1839 at 4:00.
