🏚 Wat Rong Khun was originally a small, dilapidated temple until 1997 when National Artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, specializing in visual arts (painting), renovated and redesigned it.
🏰 It has since become a beautiful religious site with intricate architecture and art inspired by the nation, religion, and monarchy.
Highlights within the temple include:
🏰 The main chapel (ubosot) is situated on a low hill. The entrance path is a long bridge symbolizing the crossing over the cycle of rebirth towards enlightenment.
🏰 The white chapel is adorned with traditional Thai architectural elements and decorated with silver mirrors in a tiered pattern. The white color represents the purity of the Buddha, while the mirrors symbolize the Buddha's wisdom shining brightly.
🏰 The gable is decorated with unique naga (serpent) designs. Inside, there are murals painted by Chalermchai.
🙏 The roof features important Buddhist principles such as morality, concentration, and wisdom, represented by various mythical creatures.
🏰 The Ganesha Park features a golden Ganesha shrine situated in the middle of a pond, with exhibitions about Ganesha inside.
💥 The Art Cave showcases sculptures inspired by Buddhist concepts, including stalactite and stalagmite formations, statues of the Buddha, depictions of hell, and the gate to Nirvana, accompanied by music and light effects throughout the tour.
🖼 The Exhibition Hall displays paintings, art galleries, and artworks by Chalermchai.
