Chiayi Lumber Plant Park, a wood industry park during the Japanese era

Location: No. 4, Linsen West Road, East District, Chiayi City

Introduction: Completed and put into use in 1914, it was the largest government-run timber industrial park owned by the Japanese government during the Japanese colonial period. It had the most advanced facilities and technology in Europe and America at the time. It was responsible for storing the wood cut down from Alishan Mountain and undertook the important task of processing the wood into "timber". Today, the lumber mill is no longer in operation, but it still preserves many historical buildings and relics, as well as a large green space that was once a cedar pond. It is a rare cultural and quiet place in Chiayi City.

Tickets: Free

Opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm

Insights: The timber industry was one of Taiwan’s important industries in the past. It was once prosperous. However, with the reduction of natural resources and the changing times. Has gradually declined. But it is still a piece of historical significance worth savoring.
