Is it worth visiting the Kyushu National Museum when visiting Fukuoka? Let me share my experience with you.
🕙Opening hours: 9:30 - 17:00, closed on Mondays, be sure to avoid Mondays when planning your trip.
💰Ticket price: Free for those under 18 and over 70, just show your passport to the staff. Adult tickets are 700 yen, and students are half price. It is very convenient to buy tickets. You can buy them at the self-service machines or the counters. The counters also support UnionPay, WeChat and Alipay payments.
🏛️Venue scale: The museum was built 20 years ago. From the outside, the venue looks very large, but in fact only one of the four floors is used for visiting. Compared with provincial museums in China, Kyushu National Museum is really small. Once you enter the museum, you can walk around it quickly. Unlike large museums, there are not many exhibition areas for in-depth exploration.
🎎Collection features: Although the scale is small, the exhibits here show the formation of Japanese culture from the perspective of Asian history, and you can see traces of exchanges between Japan and various parts of Asia. However, if you want to find the kind of super treasure that will catch your eye, you may be a little disappointed, because there are no particularly outstanding collections in the museum.
🚩In general, if you have enough time and are near Dazaifu (it is right next to Dazaifu. After visiting Tenmankaku, there is a sign next to the Treasure Hall on the left. Just follow it and you will get there. It is very convenient), you might as well go for a walk and learn more about Japanese culture. But if your schedule is tight, then this museum is not a must-visit spot and you don’t need to make special time to visit it.
