Zhengzhou Dengfeng / Shaolin Temple

Finally got to see the legendary Shaolin Temple! There are so many martial arts schools nearby. I heard they can only go home during the Lunar New Year, which is really hard 😅

Some of their students perform at the Shaolin Temple and at Zen Buddhist ceremonies. They're truly amazing! Shaolin Temple offers about four free martial arts performances a day, but the flow isn't well designed, and the crowds that squeeze in are a terrible experience... but the performances are fantastic.

Shaolin Temple was once destroyed by fire during a military conflict, linked to Feng Yuxiang's push to destroy temples and promote education. The current buildings are mostly rebuilt. However, the carbonized wood behind the temple clearly reveals this history.
