The Tianchi Lake on Changbai Mountain on the 19th was stunning.

The Changbai West Scenic Area has four attractions:
① Tianchi Lake, ② Jinjiang Grand Canyon, ③ Alpine Garden, and ④ Wangchi Lake.
The ticket inspector at the ticket office on our day had informed us that if the weather wasn't good and we couldn't see the lake, we could cancel and get a refund. But we figured we'd give it a try since we were already there! As the shuttle bus arrived, it was already raining and windy! While climbing the plank road, we saw sedan chairs. The full uphill climb cost ¥400, the halfway up, and the downhill climb was half the price. We chose to do each step on our own, and the climbing time varied. When we reached the Tianchi viewing platform, we basically saw people huddled against the fence, unable to see anything! We waited for about 20 to 30 minutes! The rain was getting heavier, and there was no chance of clearing up, so we moved on to the next attraction. We then took the shuttle bus to the Jinjiang Grand Canyon, which, according to the official guide, takes 40 minutes. The canyon landscape is beautiful, with wooden plank roads, and chipmunks can be seen scurrying around and gnawing along the path. Since Wangchi and the Alpine Gardens weren't in bloom at the time, they weren't open, so the whole day's visit was essentially a rainy affair. Back at the visitor center, I saw dried "wood frog" in a nearby shop. According to the local taxi driver, wood frog and snow frog are not the same thing!
