Füssen is a small town in Bavaria, Germany, enchanted by its fairytale-like beauty. It is best known for being home to Neuschwanstein Castle, the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and the equally stunning Hohenschwangau Castle. Füssen is also a great base for exploring the natural beauty of the nearby mountains and lakes, and is part of the Romantic Road.
Geography and Location
Located in Bavaria, in southern Germany, it is approximately 110 kilometers from Munich and just 5 kilometers from the Austrian border.
The town sits on the River Lech and is surrounded by the Alps and several lakes, including Forggensee and Alpsee.

The City of Fairytale Castles
Neuschwanstein Castle, built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and inspired the Disney castle, is situated on a hill above Hohenschwangau, near Füssen. The castle offers stunning views of the lake and mountains.
The nearby golden-yellow Hohenschwangau Castle was the home of the young Bavarian royal family.
The Old Town (Altstadt) is vibrant. The ancient cobblestone streets, pastel-colored wooden houses, and Baroque buildings create a nostalgic atmosphere. There are ancient churches, such as St. Mang's Abbey and the Hohes Schloss (High Castle), with its trompe-l'œil murals.
