George Town (English: George Town / Georgetown; Penang Hokkien: Pho-té, meaning city center) is the capital of Penang State, Malaysia, located in the northeast corner of Penang Island. Penang is the sixth largest city and the largest island city in Malaysia in 2020. George Town is also one of the ancient towns in Malaysia and was officially listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on July 7, 2008, forming the current historic area. George Town is the political, financial, tourism, cultural and higher education center of Penang State and the entire northern Malaysia.
During the Georgetown Celebration in 2012, Lithuanian artist Ernest Zaharevich painted a series of murals in Georgetown about the local culture, residents and lifestyle. Today, these murals are famous tourist attractions in George Town, with the "Sister and Brother Riding Together" mural being the most photographed spot in the city. Ernest also painted six murals in Georgetown, but only five remain.
Since then, street art has begun to flourish throughout the state of Penang. Cultural centers such as the Xing Bus Company Maintenance Depot are now planning exciting exhibitions and inviting international artists to visit and paint, building on the city’s existing reputation to evolve into a vibrant cultural and artistic center. Street art is not limited to murals, there are many interesting wrought iron sculptures on display in George Town waiting to be discovered on the streets.
I really like Penang in Malaysia, the weather is good and the environment is comfortable! Especially in George Town, the streets are full of creative and colorful Street Art! There are surprises everywhere, and those who like to check in and take photos will definitely have a great time!
