While walking just outside Fort Cornwallis in Penang, I found myself unexpectedly entertained by a lively crowd—not of tourists, but pigeons. I’ve seen pigeons all over the world, but this group had real personality.
They weren’t just lingering around—they were waiting. The moment someone pulled out food, they rushed in, flapping and strutting like they owned the place. One man stood calmly with a bag of crumbs, and within seconds, pigeons surrounded him from all sides. It was fascinating to watch—like a mini flash mob of birds responding to an unspoken invitation.
There was no grand wall behind them, just open space, trees, and the hum of Penang life carrying on around us. The whole moment had a strange, peaceful charm—ordinary, yet oddly unforgettable.
Sometimes it’s not the landmarks that leave the deepest impression, but the small, unplanned moments that happen just outside them.
