【Hakone Kowakien Tenyu】For groups of 4 or more, choose the Special Room

Though Tenyu is a 5-star hot spring resort, its prices can be quite attractive, especially in winter. Under normal circumstances, the per-person rate starts from around ¥1,400 including two meals.

What I particularly want to highlight are Tenyu's three room types: Standard Room, Top Floor Room, and Special Room. The Standard Room feels rather small to me, and the interior decor isn't particularly modern—it's comparable to 3-star accommodations (like Suigetsusou in Hakone). If you prefer a mountain view or want to avoid insects, the Top Floor Room is a good choice, though the decor still isn't outstanding. The real standout is the six Special Rooms, which are very spacious. These are highly recommended for families or groups of friends, and the open-air private hot spring in the room is uniquely designed.

As for dining, options like teppanyaki or sukiyaki are available—just pick what you like. Breakfast is a Western-style buffet; it won’t disappoint and will definitely fill you up.

While every room has a private hot spring, I highly recommend trying the public baths. The indoor bath features floor-to-ceiling windows with lovely views, and the outdoor bath gives the illusion of blending into the horizon, reminiscent of Southeast Asian infinity pools.

The hotel offers shuttle service from Gora Station at fixed times, so check the schedule before heading out.
