The underground residence of the founding generalissimo, Project 704

Location: No. 79, Longjing Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province

Introduction: The 704 Palace was built in April 1970. Located on the shores of West Lake, the complex comprises several villas nestled between the northern and southern peaks, once a restricted military zone. The palace comprises four villas: Buildings 1, 2, 3, and 4, covering an area of 307 mu (approximately 16 acres).
Building 1 of the 704 Palace housed Lin Biao's family. Building 2 housed a swimming pool, built partly for Ye Qun's pleasure and partly for her son Lin Liguo's beauty pageant. In the 1970s, this pool was a world-class semi-standard pool, equipped with large air conditioning, sound-absorbing panels, an automatic circulation and filtration system, an automatic water control system, and an automatic thermostat. Building 3, located opposite Building 1, housed Lin Biao's four most trusted generals: Huang Yongsheng, Wu Faxian, Li Zuopeng, and Qiu Huizuo. Consequently, it is also known as the General's Building. Building 4 housed Chen Liyun, Lin Biao's agent in Zhejiang.

Opening Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Admission: 16 RMB

Review: Lin Biao was a renowned general in history, but he also suffered from indelible injuries from years of fighting. This palace was built specifically for him. Don't miss this unique underground residence when visiting Hangzhou.
