Hangzhou City Linping District

Linping District, under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located on the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area, in the northeast of Hangzhou City. It borders Deqing County of Huzhou City to the north, is adjacent to the Qiantang River to the south, extends west to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and borders Haining City of Jiaxing to the east, covering an area of 286 square kilometers. Linping District has a subtropical monsoon climate. As of September 2024, Linping District administers 7 subdistricts and 1 town.
Linping District has a long history and rich culture, making it a place of profound heritage and an ecologically livable land. The name "Linping" appeared in historical records as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty. It became a market town during the Jin Dynasty. Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it has been a necessary passage and the largest port for water routes eastward from Hangzhou along the Shangtang River. Linping was established as a town in the first year of the Duangong era of the Northern Song Dynasty (988 AD). During the Southern Song Dynasty, it was part of the capital region. On April 9, 2021, the original Yuhang District of Hangzhou City was divided by the canal into the new Linping District and the new Yuhang District of Hangzhou City. Linping District is a key area connecting Hangzhou to Shanghai. The Hangzhou Ring Expressway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, Hangzhou-Putuo Expressway, and Shenjiahu-Hangzhou Expressway pass through the district. The Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway, and Xuanhang Railway also run through it, with Linping South Station located within the district.
