Taking a 6-year-old to Hengshan, we not only climbed the mountain but also prayed for blessings. The child learned to say "peace and health" blessings. Visiting in winter, we even saw the rime ice—super healing! This guide is a must-read for families with kids~
🚗 Transportation: Take the high-speed train to Hengshan West Station! There is a direct shuttle bus from the station to the scenic area, 15 minutes to the visitor center, no need to find a ride yourself, very worry-free with kids~🏨 Accommodation: Stay near Banshanting! You can take a sightseeing bus up the mountain, stroll Banshan Street at night with many small shops, family rooms are available in guesthouses, and you can borrow children's picture books~🎢 Must-play for families:
Nanyue Grand Temple: Pray with kids! Prepare small incense sticks for them, teach them to pray and say blessings. The temple has many ancient trees, and you can play the "count tree rings" game with your child~
Zhurong Peak: The summit is stunning! Take the sightseeing bus to Nantianmen, then climb 20 minutes of stairs to see the sea of clouds (weather permitting). The child was super excited to see the sea of clouds~
Rime Ice (winter): Available from December to February! The tree branches are covered with ice crystals. Put gloves on your child so they can touch it. Taking photos feels like being in a snowy world. Remember to dress warmly~
🍱 Food: Highly recommend Hengshan tofu! So tender it melts in your mouth. Order the steamed version for kids, and also try Hengshan cured meat stir-fried with bamboo shoots, the non-spicy version is loved by kids too~
⚠️ Note: The scenic area sightseeing bus runs on schedule; if you miss it, you have to wait a long time. Don’t let kids run around during prayers as the temple is crowded. It’s cold at the mountain top in winter, so dress your child in a down jacket and snow boots~
